How many footsteps have you taken in your life? Thanks to our smartphone health apps, we can track our steps and challenge ourselves to take more. But what about the footsteps of a child? These small strides measure so much more than health. They measure growth, strength, adventure, and curiosity. Cherishing the steps of children is the Philadelphia-based handmade leather boot company, Mason Dixon.
Mason Dixon’s founder Heather Holiday grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland just below the Mason Dixon Line. Her childhood was spent outdoors, staying out from breakfast until dusk, and exploring the wonders of the woods with her brother. Heather’s three year old daughter is experiencing a different kind of childhood in Philadelphia. This, however, energized Heather to bring the country to the city.
Living in the city is different for sure, although I’m so inspired by all the ways to find that, sort of, Huck Finn experience in the city.
Heather’s first shoe endeavor began when she wanted to make customized shoes for her daughter. During nap time, Heather traced the outline of her tiny sole and made a drool-worthy moccasin. Although admirers gushed over this pair of moccs, Heather knew that the baby moccasin industry was over saturated. Instead, she wanted to make shoes that represented her own active childhood.
Mason Dixon’s leather boots are all handmade using fine materials and are durable enough for any adventure. The boots feature a vegetable-tanned leather insole that is flexible – allowing the foot to move and grow. The plantation crepe rubber soling also molds to your child’s unique foot shape. This provides maximum comfort and support.
As someone who grew up as a mover and shaker, Heather treasures the steps your kids will take wearing Mason Dixon leather boots.
I hope the kids wearing Mason Dixons feel happy and confident and are comfortable to run, play, and enjoy many adventures.
